Issue: It has been found that the latest two drivers from nVidia are incorrectly written wherein co-installation routines fail during unattended installation and a null driver is installed
Symptoms:
Particular nVidia drivers continue to be problematic from the manufacturer and do not install on select, specific Dell Latitude hardware (D630, D830, E6500, E6410, E6400).
Resolution:
Several changes were made in this release to facilitate the installation of proper versions. Note also that BIOS updates have been released by Dell to assist in addressing this issue.
Issue: TPM drivers do not install correctly
Symptoms:
TPM drivers do not install correctly on Windows XP and Windows 7 64-bit.
Resolution:
TPM drivers removed. Rely solely on Windows inbox drivers for TPM modules.
Reminder:
The driver database now exceeds 4Gb in size (5.7Gb). Please follow the guidelines below for optimal performance. Same db still covers XP through Win7-64bit.
- USB Flash drives need to be formatted with the NTFS file system before the driver database will successfully transfer.
- If transferring the UIU to DVD, dual-layer DVDs will be required. Most DVD readers will successfully read a dual-layer DVD. Consult associated documentation for specifics.

Resolution:
Driver version reverted to July release (see known issue).
Known Issue:

OS Support Addition:
Added UIU support for Windows Thin PC (Windows 7 Thin OS) and Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs (Windows XP Thin OS).
UIU Log File Additions:
UIUConfig.cfg file contents added to UIU Log – Private information is not recorded.
UIU Run Count implemented in UIU Log to identify how many times the UIU has been executed on the base machine. [Setup Guide pg. 54].
Issue: Audio driver installation failure.
Symptoms:
Newer model PCs fail during mini-setup when installing audio driver
Resolution:
Code has been modified to not remove media classes.
Issue: Unexpected UAC actions upon UIU failure.
Symptoms:
Program Compatibility Assistant invoked upon UIU failure during execution.
Resolution: Code has been modified to eliminate possibility of Assistant invocation.
Issue: UIU Clean-up actions adjusted.
Symptoms:
When using the Computer Name prompt, a UIU-created temporary file is not removed during the post-UIU cleanup process.
Resolution:
All temporary files are now removed during the clean-up process.
Issue: Imported Sysprep answer file with
“-disablesysprepvalidation”
Symptoms:
When using the “-disablesysprepvalidation” switch with Windows7, an imported Sysprep
answer file is not exported to the correct directory, leaving no instructions when
Sysprep is invoked.
Resolution:
Sysprep answer file is now exported to the correct direcotry when using the
“-disablesysprepvalidation” switch with the UIU.
Issue: Imported answer file location in UIUconfig.cfg with
“-disablesysprepvalidation”
Symptoms:
When using the “-disablesysprepvalidation” switch with any supported OS, the specific
location of an imported answer file is not recorded (the default location is recorded instead) if the UIU configuration was saved through GUI.
Resolution:
The correct location of the answer file is recorded in the UIU configuration when an answer file is imported and the “-disablesysprepvalidation” switch is used.
Issue: UIU GUI – Contacts Page E-mail Support.
Symptoms:
In UIU GUI, on Contact Page, if no e-mail client is installed, the UIU crashes when “E-mail
Support” is selected.
Resolution:
The UIU now displays a warning if no e-mail client is installed and does not fail.
Issue: UIU local machine driver removal
Symptoms:
On any supported OS, the UIU removes local drivers in order to minimize conflicts on deployed hardware. If those drivers are not completely removed, subsequent attempts to install the same or similar driver to fail due to duplicate entries.
Resolution:
Device drivers on local machine are now completely removed.
Issue: Enhanced cleanup of UIU temporary files
Note: Renamed UIU Log files will be removed. If you desire to rename and save old log files,please move them to a different directory or copy them off of the Base machine prior to reboot.
Issue: MIMIC Additions
KB981542: Windows 7 x86 & x64 – Address registry key size in excess of 8kb, causes minisetupto fail. MIMIC provides a hotfix through GUI. (Corrected in Windows 7 SP1)
KB2028749: Windows 7 x86 & x64 – Network Location Prompt. After network location is
chosen in base image; when Sysprep is applied and the machine is restarted, a prompt to select the network location is presented even if the desired location had been designated in Unattend.XML. MIMIC provides a hotfix through GUI. (Corrected in Windows 7 SP1)
UIU Run Count: MIMIC will warn user if the UIU has been previously run on base machine.

Issue: UIU Configuration Wizard – Missing answer file upon saved

Symptoms:
ALL OS - Temp location for Sysprep answer file is recorded to UIU Configuration file; subsequent UIU executions with saved Configuration file would therefore attempt to find an answer file in the temp location and would find none, resulting in ineffective Sysprep execution.
Resolution:
UIU4 Configuration Wizard updated to save correct location of answer files when user
designates specific location.
Issue: UIU Discovery Tool.
Symptoms:
When using UIUDT -targetOS switch on Windows 7 (x86 & x64) UIUDT would only request
and display online analysis for Windows 7 RTM.
Resolution:
Now will request and display analysis results for Windows 7 RTM and Windows 7 SP1.

Replaced corrupted driver component file with correct version.
Known Issue:
Particular, updated nVidia video driver does not install on select, specific Dell Latitude hardware (D630, D830, E6500, E6410, E6400). Issue appears to be related to imaging environment and a resolution is still being pursued.
Known Issue:
Particular SigmaTel audio driver installs however no sound is projected and tray icon is not visible. A resolution has been determined and will be made available in the next release version of the UIU. In the interim, manually reinstalling the audio device has been effective.

Issue: Set Optimal Display Resolution feature sets display
resolution greater than the capabilities of a monitor.
Symptoms:
When using the Set Optimal Display Resolution advanced feature in combination with machines attached to a KVM switch, monitor displays error citing the inability to display the resolution. Due to the KVM pass-through, the UIU feature cannot accurately assess the monitor’s properties and relies on the graphics card’s capabilities solely.
Resolution:

Issue: NEW FEATURE - Set Optimal Display Resolution
Description:
- (Advanced Options) If checked, this feature sets the post-deploy screen resolution to the optimum setting as negotiated by the machine's video adapter and attached monitor.
Issue: Proxy information not saved while using UIU Discovery Tool
Symptoms:
- When using the UIU Discovery Tool from within the UIU program, proxy information is not saved.
Resolution:
- Corrected code to allow for saving of proxy information.
Issue: "Join Domain" feature not effective in Windows Vista & Windows 7
Symptoms:
- When the "Join Domain" check box is selected in the Sysprep - Networking tab, the deployed image does not successfully join a domain and therefore the AutoLogon feature does not work for Windows Vista, Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit).
Resolution:
- Corrected code to affect the post-deployment joining of a domain and subsequent autologon in Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating systems. The options in the GUI are now logically bound to eliminate confusion (you cannot select AutoLogon if Join Domain is not selected).

Issue: UIU Configuration Process (Vista) - Computer Name feature not functioning properly.
Symptoms:
- Having selected the Computer Name feature in the UIU, no post-deployment Computer Name dialog prompt was being presented, particularly if the Windows Welcome is enabled, regardless of the existence of data in the Sysprep answer file.
Resolution:
- Code corrected.
- Windows Welcome is enabled by answer file element(s) equal to false or missing, regardless of Computer Name selection.
- Computer Name field only accepts computer name of length 15 characters or less, and only accepts valid characters. (Valid characters include only alphanumeric (A-Z, 0-9), hyphen (-), and underscore (_) characters.) Computer Name field now allows for "*" to request generated computer names.
Enhancement: Added MIMIC for missing time zones registry information
Symptoms:
- Missing time zone information in the Windows Registry would precipitate the failure of UIU to complete.
Resolution:
- Users are warned via MIMIC that data is missing, where possible displaying the time zones that are not missing. Users may opt to ignore the warning and the UIU will complete. Note that if the warning is ignored, missing time zones will not be selectable in Windows applications.

SUPPORT NOTICE: Windows Vista Service Pack 2 Support
- UIU v4.0.5 recognizes and officially supports Windows Vista SP2
Enhancement: UIU Discovery Tool support for multiple Windows OS versions
- UIU Discovery Tool is now OS version-agnostic and allows users to scan a system running one particular Windows OS version and use the resultant UIU Discovery Tool data files to prepare a Universal Image for any Windows OS version.
ISSUE: The UIU only provides a Windows Vista option to invoke Windows Welcome mandating entry of various data during the mini-setup process.
Symptoms:
- Manual entry of Computer Name, Username (User Account), Password (User Account), PC Location (Internet, Work or Home) and Windows Updates upon deployment due to invocation of Windows Welcome in Vista.
Resolution:
- Option added to UIU Sysprep answer file import for Windows Vista (Unattend XML) to allow users to specify the manual entry of Computer Name ONLY immediately upon the invocation of mini-setup.
ISSUE: During the UIU driver extraction process on base machines with specific video adapters, a video acceleration memory leak causes the UIU to halt.
Symptoms:
- UIU crashes during UIU driver extraction.
Resolution:
- Code modified to change the method of addressing video acceleration (software acceleration) to resolve conflicts with specific video drivers and the .NET Framework.
ISSUE: User-interface timing problem during the UIU MIMIC process prevents the UIU process from initiating.
Symptoms:
- The UIU process is not available (unavailable "Finish" button), if during the MIMIC scan, the "Next" button is clicked-on (to the Advanced Screen) before the MIMIC scan is complete.
Resolution:
- Code corrected to account for timing of Advanced Screen options with respect to MIMIC completion. Note: if user interface is clicked-on to the Advanced Screen prior to MIMIC completion, MIMIC will still need to be re-initiated to provide appropriate advanced options and display the "Finish" button.

CRITICAL NOTICE: UIU Log File Location Change!!
Symptoms:
- UIU Log files were being written to Windows Application Default locations, which were by default, hidden directories.
Resolution:
- All UIU log files will be written to C:Profram FilesUIU. Note: the log file will also now display the UIU Driver Database label version (4-x) as opposed to a build number.
ISSUE: Critical Update Addition
Symptoms:
- The UIU Update service was not capable of distinguishing between standard updates and "critical" updates.
Resolution:
- Code added to allow the UIU Update application to specifically identify and alert the user that "Critical" updates are available for the UIU and the UIU Driver Database.
ISSUE: UIU Discovery Tool Addition
Symptoms:
- Use of an UIU Image prepared with UIUDT files results in a blue screen error on machines for which no UIUDT file and hard drive controller was included (i.e. brand new machines).
Resolution:
- Code added to force pre-installation of all available UIU HDC devices regardless of set selection of UIUDT files for image preparation, ensuring bootability on all deployed machines regardless of UIUDT.

- Code added to automatically import Sysprep executables and answer files.
ISSUE: When the UIU is restarted before completion, a file copy error prevents further execution

- Files copied from the UIU Start Path are copied to C:Program FilesUIU and are set to read-only, causing an error if the UIU is restarted before completion.

ISSUE: Skip Updates feature not invoked by use of the command line paremeter.
Symptoms:
- If the "skipupdates" command line parameter is used, the "Update Option to Skip(online)Updates" is not checked, despite the fact that checking the option box manually functions correctly.

- Code corrected to successfully reflect the use of the "skipupdates" command line parameter.
Remove .NET Framework Advanced Feature Addition:

- The UIU will be capable of removing the portions of the .NET Framework that the UIU executed the installation for with the exception of .NET Framework v2.0
Description:
- If the UIU is directed to install .NET Framework versions 2.0, 3.0 and/or 3.5SP1, the UIU may be instructed to remove all versions of the .NET Framework with the exception of version 2.0.
Boot Menu Enhancement:
Detail:
- The UIU Boot Menu timeout setting in the GUI now allows for the selection of positive integers as well as 0 and -1.
Description:
- Negative integer (-1): This setting forces the UIU Boot Menu to remain on the Boot Menu indefinitely. Zero: This setting forces the UIU Boot Menu to automatically execute the top boot option as defined by the UIU. Positive Integer: This setting allows the user to delay the execution of the top boot option by "X" seconds.
UIU Save Configuration Enhancements:

- Corrected redundant Sysprep entries during mixed import/create new scenarios.
- Corrected handling of special characters (including spaces) when writing to the log or creating the Sysprep answer file.
- Corrected code to address the inclusion or exclusion of particular sections of the Sysprep answer file based on imported answer file configurations. Established precedence for automatic import of Sysprep executables and answer files based on known locations. Command line parameters are used before UIU root directory files, which are used before C:Sysprep location files. Sysprep executable files are handled autonomously from Sysprep answer files.
