UIUSD Beta Test Expectations

As a condition of accepting Big Bang's invitation to assist us in the UIUSD Beta Test, we ask for the following communication so that the UIUSD Beta Team can ensure a timely and stable release of the full version product:

  1. Description of your SCCM environment with all relevant complexities including site servers, distribution points and network topology. (Sterilized if required, otherwise our Privacy Policy will certainly apply)
  2. Description of your OS Deployment Methodology (PXE, WinPE, or bootable CD, etc.?)
  3. Prompt and complete accounting of any problems or issues that you encounter with appropriate log file submissions.
  4. Detailed explanation and description of features that you consider to be missing or otherwise beneficial.
  5. Confirmation of the usefulness of UIUSD within your SCCM environment.

If you have any questions regarding UIUSD Beta Test Expectations, please contact the UIUSD Beta Team at 414.369.5020 or betateam@bigbangllc.com

    • Build at least one Base Image on hardware and collect using ImageX

Be sure to include an additional administrative user (via Sysprep answer file) in the Base Image as Sysprep renders the Administrator account disabled by default.  Modify answer file to include the following feature:  Admin Active:Yes

Create a UIUSD Test collection of machines in the SCCM environment.  After each test, be sure to Clear Previous Advertisements from this collection.

    • Advertise an Install Task Sequence to a pre-defined test collection using the SCCM Boot CD methodology
      • Verify that all devices on deployed machines have associated, installed drivers in Device Manager
    • Advertise an Install Task Sequence to a pre-defined test collection using the SCCM PXE methodology
      • Verify that all devices on deployed machines have associated, installed drivers in Device Manager
  • Feature accuracy (do individual features perform in a manner that you would expect?)
    • UIU Discovery Tool Package
      • Launch UIUDT on Sample Machine #1 from the Main Menu and let UIU create a UIUDT Data File (.UIUDT)
        • Store collected  UIUDT data files in single folder on SCCM Site Server
        • Create a UIUDT Package for use with the UIUSD Task Sequence; Computer Management>Software Distribution>right-click on Packages>New>Package>

            • Record quantity of driver files located in C:\Windows\Program Data\UIU\INF (or C:\Windows\INF\UIU on WinXP) on deployed Sample Machine #1
          • Compare and note differences in drivers delivered to deployed Sample Machine #1
        • Execute UIUDT without Internet access and locate Data and Results Report – Submit to Big Bang
        • Execute UIUDT with Internet access and locate Data and Results Report – Submit to Big Bang
    • Custom Driver Package

      • Execute Online Updates from the UIU icon in the system tray or from the UIU System Deploy node in the Operating System Deployment section of the Configuration Manager
      • Allow UIUSD to complete its update process, selecting options as presented.  Details to follow.
    • UIUSD Setup Guide – Recommendations on layout, flow or content will be appreciated…  Grammar and spelling will change through additional proof-reading
  • Product Flow (does it continue to be intuitive?)
  • Look/Feel (Is the GUI visually pleasing and is your eye automatically drawn to the location that you’d expect?)
  • Language flaws (grammar or spelling, etc.)
(Remember to submit notes, UIU log files, SCCM logs, uiudt files and other pertinent data)

The best method is to begin with your usual process and notice the differences, etc…  Then go back and test some specific features.  As far as we’re concerned, the more feedback, the better UIUSD you’ll get!  Feel free to inundate us with details!

Setup Guide:

This is a work in Progress and will appear rough; some sections may be inaccurate and will be denoted as such.  New versions will be uploaded as they are completed.
